Despite incredible advances in medicine, chronic disease and mental ill-health are at an all-time high. And while many factors are complex, one thing that does remain within our control is the way we live day to day.
I know this because I lived the other side of it.
I’ve spent over a decade in the corporate world — first as a Big 4 accountant and management consultant, and now in marketing — chasing success through long hours, ambition and external validation. On paper, I was doing well. In reality, I was exhausted, anxious, disconnected, and slowly burning out. Like many women in demanding 9-to-5 (& 5-9) roles, I believed pushing harder was the answer, even as my health quietly suffered, with me eventually developing an eating disorder.
There wasn’t a single breaking point that changed everything. It was a gradual realisation that success means very little if you’re running on empty. Feeling well, mentally and physically, is what allows you to actually experience the life you’re working so hard to build.
That realisation led me to change course.
Determined to take a different path, I followed by passion for health and helping others, and in 2022 I stepped away from the corporate grind and followed a long-held curiosity about health, psychology and human behaviour. I backpacked through Europe to understand how different cultures approach wellbeing, became a certified 200-hour yoga teacher in Mallorca, obtained personal training certifications, and returned to university as a mature-aged student to complete a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science. Along the way, I trained as a Lifeline Crisis Supporter, volunteered as a mental health educator and facilitator for corporate professionals, and began teaching yoga in my local community.
What became clear through this journey was a frustrating gap. Wellness resources were either too “woo-woo,” too fragmented, or completely disconnected from the realities of corporate life. And when workplace wellbeing programs did exist, they were often designed by people who had never worked in high-pressure environments, resulting in generic advice that sounded good but rarely led to meaningful change.
Ascend with Bec was created to bridge that gap.
My mission is to help women in the 9-to-5 (and 5-9) grind improve their mental wellbeing and physical health through practical, science-backed tools that actually fit real life. Here, we focus on movement, nutrition, mindfulness and psychology, not as rigid rules or total life overhauls, but as sustainable habits that support long-term health, energy and clarity.
I’ve lived the corporate grind, the student grind (twice), and everything in between. I understand what works, and what doesn’t, when time, motivation and mental load are limited.
And I want to be honest with you, I’m still on this journey too. I don’t have life “figured out.” I still overthink, doubt myself and have days where I feel flat or overwhelmed. That’s human. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s learning how to notice when you’re drifting, and knowing how to bring yourself back.
That’s what Ascend with Bec is here for, to help you stop running on empty, care for your health without guilt or extremes, and enjoy the life you’ve worked so hard to build.
